Adopt a Resident - save the villages!
Join Plane Stupid and Heathrow residents to stop the third runway
West London is under threat. The Government and BAA are plotting to build a third runway at Heathrow Airport. The runway would see 220,000 additional planes in the skies over London each year and emit as much greenhouse gas as Kenya. Two historic villages near the airport would be decimated; Sipson and parts of Harmondsworth buried under tonnes of concrete.
Plane Stupid is not prepared to stand by and let this happen and has teamed up with local residents to make sure the runway never built. We're drawing up plans for the largest and most important site battle the UK has ever seen. On one side stand the forces of darkness: the Government, the airlines, BAA, and those who would put profit before life. On the other, hundreds of people from Sipson and Harmondsworth, and thousands of environmental activists.
We're not going to wait until the bulldozers roll in to stand up for what we believe in so we're coming together to organise the defence of the villages now. But we can't do it on our own, so we're launching Adopt a Resident to team local residents up with campaigners to build a coalition that can't be stopped.
We're inviting you to stand up and be counted by supporting people who would lose their homes and communities were the runway ever built.
What's involved?
For now, you'll be forging links with the community, and helping them plan their defence. You don't need oodles of experience: we'll be running direct action training and ice-breakers and all sorts of community events. Later, if the Government doesn't stop its crazy plans, we'll go, en masse, to the villages, where we'll be taking action to save them from destruction.
There will be tea, cake, d-locks, 'dozer-diving... and plenty of bunting. We'd love you to get involved.
